About Chadar The Frozen River

Chadar as the name suggests refers to a frozen blanket of ice! Imagine the extend of adventure you can have at such a place with an altitude of around 12,000 feet! The lake stretches from Padum through the dramatic Zanskar Gorge and then merges with Indus River, covering over 7000 square km area. Gosh!!! The coldest months here are mid-January to mid-February. A frozen sight waits for the trekker to experience the adventure of its own kind – all glasses ice around with a few rays of sunlight!!The mountains are steep and trekking is difficult, but the fun of trekking through the villages is best. The notion of walking over frozen river ice with a large pack on your back and very cold rushing water a few inches below your feet is terrifying, but indeed thrilling and most unique trek. Trekking down a narrow valley with breathe taking scenic views of ice peaks with nights worth spending at cave camps with a bon fire to keep you warm and cosy.
